Almost eight years ago, I made a big decision. I live in Utah and frequented a local retail shop that specialized in ladies apparel .I was drawn there because they had the most beautiful sweaters I had ever seen... I would buy sweaters for my wife and mother and sisters. At the time I was serving as the Senior Vice President of a billion dollar company, and was very active in church, civic and community affairs. The last thing I needed was another project in my life. Yet every time I went in the store, I asked the owner, Rosemarie Smith if she would like to sell me her store, which was named Allyse's, after her daughter. Every time she would laugh and tell me she wasn't interested in selling, but something deep inside me told me to keep asking. I continued asking and one day, she agreed.
I was excited and yet the whole way home from the store that day, I kept asking myself how I was going to manage it and take care of it with all of my other responsibilities. The next day, when I went to her house to sign the documents and buy the store, a young couple was sitting there with her. Rosemarie introduced me to Allyse and her new husband Patrick When I learned that Allyse had been working at the store since she was sixteen, I felt like I had an answer to my prayers of who I would get to manage the store. I offered Allyse and Patrick the position of manager and also gave them some ownership in the store. I felt as if we were set and all was well.
Over the next few months, I would go to the store often. I constantly asked questions of our customers. They loved the store and were drawn there for the same reason I was. As I spoke to the customers, one idea that nearly every person brought up was Modesty and especially as it applied to their children. They asked if I would carry some dresses that would be the latest in fashion and also Modest. As a new owner and trying to please my customers I told them that I would. I didn't realize how hard it would be to keep that promise. When I went to market to buy a line of dresses, I was shocked. No one carried a modest line!!! As a father of teenage daughters who would soon start dating, I quickly learned the frustration of my customers.
I then knew why I felt so strongly about buying the store. I knew I was supposed to help develop, design and sell Modest dresses to girls all over the world. Not just any Modest dresses..they had to be the absolute best, including the latest in fashion, all the while making sure that each dress was Modest in design.
What started as a small sweater store was changed almost overnight. Some people thought I was taking a huge risk and others thought I was plain crazy. I was going to change a successful store completely!!!!!!!!!
The retail store became an immediate success and people from all over the nation would fly in. We had an entire store of over 25 dressing rooms and thousands of dresses which were all Modest. We began designing our own line. We invited girls from all over the nation to fly to our store and we listened as they told us of the latest styles and fashions. We have our Fashion Team which includes a girl from almost every state and they have been an important part of our success.
Our goal, of designing Modest dresses that reflected the latest in fashion and design and which were priced for all budgets was becoming a reality. A very important part of our goal was to provide the chance for all girls from all over the nation the same opportunity. We created Beautifully Modest as a company which would help us take Modest dresses all over the nation and eventually, to the whole world. We have invested thousands and thousands of dollars and hours designing the line which will reflect the latest in fashion so that we could provide the very best to you and we have developed and are developing relationships with stores and individuals which carry our line. Even if there isn't a store near you, our internet store will allow everyone the chance to buy the Modest dress of her choice.
